Welcome to Universal Credit Changes as new freephone numbers are launched
November 29, 2017
Citizens Advice County Durham have extended a welcome to the governments reforms to Universal Credit as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have launched freephone numbers for their helplines.
The new numbers are as follows
For Live Service claimants: 0800 328 9344
For Full Service claimants: 0800 328 5644
Full Service is in the areas of the county where there has been a full roll out of UC for new claimants and Live service is in the other areas, where only certain people are allowed to claim Universal Credit.
Although the changes are not as comprehensive as those demanded by Citizens Advice, Citizens Advice County Durham have welcomed the free phone number, changes to advance payments next year, reforms to housing benefit payments and the abolition of the 7 day waiting period
“It’s a welcome change but we still have big concerns about the taper rate as people get into work, the nature of the sanctions regime, the lack of support for applicants and pressure from some personnel to transfer to Universal Credit prematurely” commented Neil Bradbury, Chief Executive of the charity.
Citizens Advice County Durham will continue to work with local partners, Citizens Advice and the DWP for further reforms.
